Position description

A lab in the Department of Medicine and Chao’s Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate Professional Researcher to join a productive and dynamic research team. The lab focuses on developing innovative immunotherapy strategies and advancing oncolytic virotherapy research for the treatment of cancer.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects that aim to understand and manipulate the immune response to enhance cancer therapies. We are particularly interested in researchers with expertise in designing and executing in vivo and in vitro studies to explore immune modulation and oncolytic virus-based cancer therapeutics. This position offers an excellent environment to develop an independent research profile within a well-established and funded lab.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and conduct independent research on immunotherapy strategies and oncolytic virotherapy to combat cancers.
• Design, perform, and optimize complex experiments involving immune cell profiling, viral vectors, and therapeutic efficacy in preclinical cancer models.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data to generate high-impact publications.
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including scientists, clinicians, and trainees, to foster a collaborative and innovative research environment.
• Prepare grant proposals, research publications, and contribute to presentations at national and international conferences.
• Stay current with developments in the field of cancer immunotherapy and virotherapy, integrating new knowledge into ongoing projects.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• A Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Virology, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience in immunotherapy, oncolytic virotherapy, or tumor immunology, with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
• Proficiency in designing, executing, and analyzing preclinical studies in cancer research.
• Strong technical skills in flow cytometry, molecular biology, viral vector design, and/or in vivo mouse models.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present research findings and contribute to collaborative projects.
• Experience in grant applications or obtaining research funding.
